What We Do
It all started in November of Sophomore year. We were shopping and decided to buy some sort of club badge - something special for SRARC members to wear with pride. Of course it had to be fashionable. We were hyper, and in a daring mood, so we bought colored charm bracelets with plastic beads and a plastic heart charm. The kind that 5 year olds wear. We thought they were cute, and certainly unique! Well, apparantly the rest of JCHS didn't understand that they were meant to be for SRARC members only. People started asking us where we got them, and they actually started wearing them! We went back to the store and purchased a huge supply, and started selling them in school. Boys came to buy them for their girl friends, teachers came to but them for their daughters... we couldn't believe what was happening. By the time we left for winter vacation the entire school (plus) was wearing our bracelets! During winter break, we held a club meeting to discuss this crazy phenomenon. The message was not lost on us. We chose the silliest little bracelets to wear for fun, and the eventual peer pressure turned those silly bracelets into fashion necessities. The power of peer pressure is scary. The fact that we could effect such a huge change in so many people with a little inconsequent decision made us realize how important even the little decisions are. Finally, we realized that simple fashion statements, or silly fashion accessories like ours, may not be silly fashion accessories at all. They may truly be lessons, or heartwarming stories in disguise. So we started our first club project: collecting fashion stories. Meaningful stories behind silly fashion accessories. If you go to JCHS, you can submit your stories to us personally, or you can submit them via our website. We review the stories before we post them on the site, and we collect votes for the best submissions. Winners of the competition receive a special fashion prize. |
